The day it all began
For our last escapade in Japan, here are some of the highlights from the official opening of the Little Prince motorway service area in Yorii. A delightful musical introduction is followed by words from Olivier d’Agay, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s great-nephew and director of the Succession Saint-Exupéry-d’Agay estate, who sees in this new development a splendid expression of the Little Prince’s values. Following in the footsteps of the Hakone theme park, the Yorii service area is the second location in Japan dedicated entirely to the Little Prince.

Back Home: on the Little Prince’s planet
The Internet is full of surprises, and one we discovered just recently is Back Home, a free, independent online game in which we find the Little Prince on his planet. The aim is not exactly to attend to the planet’s toilet, but almost; there are all sorts of tasks designed to take care of the rose, the volcano and the famous sheep, all in the right, harmonious order. And if the sheep eats the rose, then it’s definitely game over!
Since it’s Friday, why not take a short break and try playing Back Home! |
The Little Prince store in Japan…
Once visitors to the Little Prince motorway service station at Yorii are relaxed and refreshed, they can take the opportunity to visit a small stand offering a range of Little Prince products. Bearing in mind that the Little Prince is a popular icon in Japan, right up there with characters from Miyazaki’s films (Laputa, Kiki the apprentice witch, Princess Mononoke et al), it will come as no surprise to see a selection of objects closely related to the character: the baobab, the rose, soft toys, mouse pads and even leather goods. The Little Prince is a much-loved hero in Japan, as the photos below clearly illustrate.
