SINGAPORE: Exhibitions featuring sculptures of characters from the book The Little Prince will soon open to the public.
The exhibitions are part of Voilah! 2015 – an annual cultural festival which this year marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and France. They also pay tribute to the author Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
The Little Prince in the Dark exhibition features 13 white-coloured sculptures, which will be presented to visitors in the dark. The exhibition will open on Wednesday (May 6) and it will be held at Alliance Francaise de Singapour till Jun 20.
The second exhibition, The Little Prince Art Collection, features 14 hand-painted sculptures representing scenes from the book. They will be presented alongside a display of manuscripts, letters and first-edition books. The exhibition will be held till May 31 at the Fullerton Hotel.
French visual artist Arnaud Nazare-Aga collaborated with the Antoine de Saint-Exupery Youth Foundation for the exhibitions.
He said: « What I need to create as an artist is really the emotion that people might have when they visit the place and (to illustrate) the feeling of being inside the book, so it is more creation on the emotion of people or visitors than the creation on anything artistic. »
Olivier d’Agay, Delegate General of the Antoine de Saint-Exupery Foundation, summed up the experience at the launch event: « The magnificent exhibitions will offer Singaporean audiences the chance to discover the poetry and humanism of Saint-Exupery in a different way, while learning more about his extraordinary life », which he said « reads like an adventure novel ».
